Okay, so I clearly took a tiny (or not so tiny) break from my original posting plans. Holidays just have a way of throwing you off your game. But it’s 2015 now, so it’s back to business!
If you happen to be new to my blog, on Mondays, I post beauty related content. This could be anything from makeup products I’m loving, products I’ve reviewed, or trends to keep an eye out for. I typically stick to makeup because hair is just not my forte (no, seriously. If you saw my hair right now, you might just cry).
So what’s on the menu today? I’m going to share with you all some of my favourite makeup products from 2014. I’ll pick one product for each area (like, foundation, eyeliner…), and share what I LOVE about each of them!
Foundation
MAC Studio FIx Foundation. You know how there is always (unfortunately) that man that you find yourself going back to, because he holds a certain something? Well, that’s the foundation for me. I’ve tried a ton of foundations over the years, but I always find myself going back to this one. It has fantastic coverage (medium- full), great staying power, and it gives a lovely matte finish (great for my oily ladies!) No matter what, I find myself reaching for this foundation over any others, and it has become a staple in my makeup routine.
Powder
Covergirl Professional Loose Powder. I never thought that I would find myself liking a drugstore powder! There are a ton of other powders I love, but this one wins because it’s a fantastic price (I mean, You can’t beat 6 bucks!). What I love about this powder is that has a very slight tint to it, which gives you a tiny bit more coverage, but nothing significant. It gives you a completely matte finish, without making you look ashy! My only thing about this powder (and I do have to mention it), is that it has a very strong perfume scent. It took my quite off guard, but I didn’t notice any breakouts on my skin because of it (something scented products can cause).
Bronzer
Rimmel Natural Bronzer in Sun Bronze. I’m going to honest with you all, bronzer is something that is very tricky for me. I’m naturally quite tanned, a lot of times, a bronzer either doesn’t snow up on me, or it’s way too dark! I’ve tried so many bronzers, that I almost gave up on finding that perfect match! Then, one day, my Mom brought home this bronzer for me to try, and I FELL IN LOVE. It’s the perfect shade for me, where it bronzes my skin, but doesn’t look muddy. There are still a couple of bronzers on my list to try for 2015, but right now, this is the one.
Highlighters
Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Tiki. I will never understand why this is marketed as a bronzer, because, honey, it wouldn’t even bronze Snow White. This highlighter is a dream. I actually bought this in 2013, and I didn’t hit pan until the end of 2014 (and I do use highlighter every day). This is a fantastic highlight, as it’s not too shimmery, but it still has some gold flecks in it, which reflect the light well. This highlighter will work well on most skin tones (if it doesn’t work for you, no worries, they do have some other shades). Seriously, if you all haven’t tried this product as yet, this is the time to do it!
Eye Shadow Palette
Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette. I am not an eyeshadow girl. My eyelid colour is naturally darker than the rest of my skin, and has a natural fade that looks like a smoky eye. Because of that, I rarely wear eye shadow, and when I do, it’s to mimic my natural eyelid colour. All of this being said, I bought both the Naked 1 palette and the Chocolate Bar palette this year, and I loved them both! The reason I chose the Naked 1 palette over the chocolate bar palette, is because I bought the latter palette at the end of 2014 (literally, I bought it December 24th), and I have yet to fully use this palette to its full potential (but, Hint hint, I’m slightly obsessed with it)
Okay, Rant over. The Naked palette is the perfect palette for someone who likes natural brown looks, but doesn’t mind building it up a bit for a hot night out. It has great versatility, and the shadow pigmentation is fabulous. You’ll get 12 great warm-neutral shades to play with, plus a brush and a mini eye shadow primer! Now, this palette is not for everyone, and luckily Urban Decay has two other palettes for you to choose from if this colour selection doesn’t suit you (I’ll do a comparison post in the future).
Eyeliner
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner. Confession time. At the beginning of the year, I swore that I would never touch a gel eyeliner. I thought they were difficult to use, and slightly annoying. Oh how things can change, because thanks to Bobbi Brown, I am a convert. This eyeliner is a dream. It goes on beautifully, and creates a dark precise line. I swear by this eyeliner (and gel liner in general now), and totally recommend this product to everyone and their mom’s.
Mascara
Make Up Forever Smoky Extravagant Mascara. I actually got this mascara in a mini size with my Sephora birthday present (thanks Sephora!), and I’m in love. I am a die hard Falsies by Maybelline mascara fan (I’ve literally been using it since it hit stores), and a firm believer that high end mascaras are a waste of money. But, let me tell you, this Make-up Forever Mascara is making me reconsider my opinion (kind of like the whole gel-liner thing). This mascara has a lovely brush, and goes on dark and strong (if that makes any sense). I swear, my lashes look fake by the time I’m done I’m finished my eye makeup. I will definitely be picking up the full size of this mascara, and I encourage you all the join me in skipping to the front of the Sephora line with about ten of these in my hand.
That’s it my ladies! These were some the products that changed my life this year (I did miss a few). I’m so excited to try out some more new products this year, and continuing to explore in this lovely, glam world of makeup!
What are some products you couldn’t get your hands off of this year? I’m dying to know!
